Snake Head Forged Iron Hanger

A Pennsylvania blacksmith made this snake head curled hanger to attach to the side of a Conestoga Wagon in the 19th century. It helped hold on the supplies carried on the outside of the wagon and was a protective amulet for the arduous journey. An iron nut was added to the threaded bolt. traces of old paint visible. Length 8 inches.
